Audit your current tool stack

A useful system begins with a specific task and a clear definition of a good result. Use the exercise below with a real example. Do not connect accounts, publish content, or change a customer record during this exercise.

Your practical exercise

List the software you pay for and give each tool one primary job. Mark duplicate jobs. For a tool with no clear owner, current use, or replacement consequence, investigate whether it can be removed. Do not cancel anything until you have checked data exports, dependencies, and contractual terms.

Write down your decision

My task is: ____. The person who owns the outcome is: ____. A good result looks like: ____. The information I can safely use is: ____. A human must review: ____. I will test it with: ____.

A useful finish line

Ask another person to read the description, or return to it the next day. Can you explain the input, action, and expected result without naming a tool? Tighten the task until you can. Then choose a reversible experiment with a manual fallback.
