CLAUDE & COWORK / A PRACTICAL START

Give Claude a task.
Keep the final say.

Learn to turn approved files and a clear brief into a reviewable first version of real work.

WHAT THE OFFICIAL DOCUMENTATION SAYS

Anthropic is gradually merging Cowork and chat into one Claude experience. Some accounts still show a Cowork selector; others accept tasks directly in the conversation. Local-folder access and available actions depend on the surface and permissions.

A sensible way to get started.

01

Check your experience

Open your current Claude app. Where Cowork is shown, select it; in the unified interface, describe the task in the conversation. Check the official availability notes for your plan.

02

Give it a small workspace

Use approved copies, uploads, or a narrowly scoped connection. Say where the output should go and which files are off limits.

03

Specify the deliverable

State audience, format, evidence, and acceptance criteria. Ask for a plan before permitting changes.

04

Inspect the work

Compare the output with the source. Verify calculations, citations, names, and file changes. Approve consequential actions separately.

Keep this boundary in place

A permission grant is not a reason to give broad access. Start with copies and drafts. UI instructions can vary during rollout.

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE

Choose your first useful task.
